Austin Piano, Theory and Composition LessonsI am an Austin piano teacher, composer and pianist with a Masters Degree in Music from the University of Texas at Austin and over 15 years experience teaching people of all ages and levels. I founded Shirah Piano Studio in 2005 to offer quality piano, music theory and composition instruction based on simple techniques I developed which will have students playing quickly and competently as they build fundamental skills. My students participate actively in the Austin District and Texas Music Teacher Associations where they receive high rankings and prizes in piano, composition and publication as well as top marks on theory and world of music exams. One student was honored with a performance by the Austin Symphony Orchestra on their annual Young Composer’s Concert in 2013. Another was the national second prize winner in the MTNA Young Composers Competition.

What Parents and Students Are Saying:
“Lisa does an excellent job of providing piano lessons tailored to her
students. She teaches them at the level that they need as well as provides
music suited to their tastes. She also encouraged our children to develop a
love of music and playing the piano.”
-Michele Weilemann “Miss Lisa, Thank you for being so kind and teaching me beautiful music that stimulates my mind.” -Megan, age 13 "I have always wanted to learn piano but it never happened until I met Lisa. I am in my 40’s so it's never too late to begin! I am a Software Engineer with a busy work schedule and a single mom of two kids (10 and 14 years old.) Lisa is willing to work with me and my schedule and circumstances. I have applied the rhythm and harmony from piano lessons to other things in my life. Believe or not, I taught myself to swim last year with one thought in my mind: keep rhythm. I have seen many adults struggle learning to swim; I advise them to take music lessons to learn rhythm first. I know when my life is in harmony I am happier in my relationships. Life is musical to me and I am happiest now, in my 40’s." |
"I treat actively suicidal patients for a living and have
used music as a means to stay focused and to relax. I shared with Lisa my life long desire
to take up the piano. I was 60 at the time with new hearing aids as I only have 30% residual
hearing left. She was undaunted by the task and took me on. While I was a singer in the church choir,
I had not mastered reading music and believed that much of this was magic. She has demythologized this for me an has me
playing many of the classical melodies that I love." -Jim

“Dear Miss Lisa, Thank you for teaching me to play piano. It has inspired me to try other instruments and to appreciate the music that I listen to.” -Grace, age 14 “Dear Ms. Lisa, Thank you for everything you have done for me and my music interests in the past 6 years. You’re very patient and you know my weaknesses and you work on them. You’re fair and don’t overload me with work. Again, thank you for all the music you have taught me.” -Ritik, age 12 “I love being in your class every week!” -Chi, age 8 Download your free copy of my "How to Practice and Learn Quickly"
